Cary Grant, v2.0

Insofar as a Christian can hope to develop a closer relationship with God by imitating Christ, I believe that I may develop more relationships with women by imitating Cary Grant. Carrying the analogy further, I wonder if then Cary Grant needs to be "dressed in" the current culture as the Church does.

Okay, enough analogy. I actually believe that Grantian methods could be employed today with no significant modifications. Unlike Gableian methods, which would need to be significantly changed to account for the sexism of Hollywood past. One of Grant's strong points was both his great respect for women and at the same time his apparent desire to disentangle himself from them. The typically faithless, almost existential, way Grant's characters viewed their relationships with women (until the woman had proven herself unique or interesting) is instantly tranferable to the oughts. Grant talked to women like he would talk to men except slightly more courteously, but never condescendingly. His distance drew them in.

Grantian methods to be implented soon. This will probably entail immersion in selected movies of his; watching nothing but Cary Grant for, say, a week.

Jealousy

"Jealousy is not a bad emotion. There are no bad emotions." - Deanna Troi (paraphrased)

I am a jealous and possessive man. I was going to write something about this, but Ashlee Simpson just scared the Bejeezus out of me. She came popping right out of my AIM buddy list. I completely forgot what I was going to say; except it had something to do with "killing them all."

Parable #1

My sister's password for everything used to be "jtt." If you happen not to have been a teenager when I was a teenager, you probably are confused what jtt is; well, it's the initals of Jonathan Taylor Thomas. I discovered this once when trying to sign in to her hotmail or something, and I took an educated guess at what her password would be. I remember being pretty shocked that it was so easy to guess. The moral of the story should be obvious.
