Pilgrimage: Bigwhoop Headquarters

The days are now getting longer. Spring Break will soon be upon those of us who are still on the "Academic Calendar" of our respective institutions. With about two months left before the typical week of spring break begins, there is still time to make plans. I propose a pilgrimage of epic proportions: the Flagstaff coterie reuniting in a mutally agreed upon city in March 2005. Furst, Morrison, Shay, and Dupuy together for the first time since the Flagstaff Summer.

Now for the logistics. Anywhere on the mainland U.S. is convenient for me and my break is March 21-25, but that fact is of little importance as I can easily skip a week of classes. Shane also has a break, though I think the week after mine, and I suspect he'd travel to most any city if he's on break. Furst and Morrison have jobs, but Furst seems to be the most fussy about traveling even a few hours on his weekends. If Andy works at a museum surely he can pretty much get off any time he wants and just get a (probably old lady) volunteer docent to cover for him. My suggestion then is to convene at a location that favors Eric being able to drive to it in a few hours, say, New York City (a.k.a., Bigwhoop Headquarters). This has the advantage of also allowing Andy, Shane, and I to meet other key Bigwhoop players, and maybe even find a place to stay for a few days with some of them. Other options for cities include one of our current hometowns: Tacoma, Honolulu, Baltimore (?), or even Tucson, but since I've never been to NYC I am sort of leaning toward that.

Thoughts?

216 Texas St.

Still recovering from an unknown amount of Southern Comfort, I pummeled myself again tonight with seeing and talking to old friends. By old, I mean my kindergarten crush Blair Click, who used to have the most outstanding dimples and whose hair is still among the blondest I've e'er seen. Also my predecessor as Senior Patrol Leader of Troop 18 and his now girlfriend who then was a very sweet middle school friend whose aunt was a physical therapist when my father went into the hospital for three months. A band that looked like they could play Otis Redding at best instead played Outkast, then White Stripes, then Britney Spears songs to the young adoring med school student (or affiliated) crowd. After tonight I'm dedicated to coming up with a better line than "I am studying astronomy in Hawaii." It's just too ridiculous. Maybe like I'm working in marketing in Florida. Then I can be like, "No, I hate Florida, it's gotta be one of the lamest states."

I'm also dedicated to not running into my whole elementary and middle school classes while in town. I know avoiding people like this is impossible, not least of all because I usually don't recognize them right off. One or two ancient people per trip from now on.

Dee H. Dubhew

It's the new fascination; slightly dark comedy with a more than slightly attractive dramatis personae: Desperate Housewives. I should be caught up by the time I go back to Manoa so that I can watch weekly with my downstairs neighbor Mr. Grannett. The week has been spent binging on things other than entertaining TV however: Civ3, seeing familiar faces, and being social in general also topped my mid-post-holiday agenda. This whole running into/seeking out old friends thing is maybe beginning to lose its novelty, not to mention actual current friend complications. Everything will evaporate a week or so after returning home I suppose.

In other news, my first cousin with a name eerily similar to my sister's may be "on exchange" in Hawaii next fall semester. I don't want to jinx it, but this may mean I have found a cousin that could be to me what Bess Jankowski is to Matt Jankowski. Now, keep in mind I have no idea what sort of relationship they have, I'm only extrapolating from online posts. Basically I'm envisioning a day when another Dupuy will be posting either in support or to rebuke my words online, and people will be continually confused as to whether she's my sister or some other sort of relative.

Favorite character: Zach (or maybe Brie)
